Dr. Sabrina Thomas, Doll Collector and Historian on In The Doll World doll podcast
In The Doll World (ITDW) doll podcast and YouTube channel is excited to share an interview with the beautiful and fascinating, Dr. Sabrina Thomas. https://www.inthedollworld.com/storytellers.html
Sabrina takes her doll collecting very seriously! Not only is she an avid doll collector; but, she is also studying dolls as part of her degree program as a social scientist in the department of Education at Duke University!
She shares with us her wonderful journey into doll collecting, which started out with only 3 dolls and the stories behind those first 3 dolls, are just as fascinating as Dr. Thomas herself. Sabrina also shares the beautiful story of how her encounter with a Marla Perkin's book which then led to a conversation with Ms. Perkins herself is what truly ignited her pursuit of doll collecting, study and research on dolls, their history and the impact they have on our world and so much more in this wonderful conversation.
A little fun side note: Dr. Thomas was introduced to us by her daughter, Yaa who suggested we have her on the show and not just because she is such an avid fan of ITDW as you will hear during the show, but most importantly she is very knowledgeable and has such a wealth of information to share with with us and our audience.
Sabrina has received several grants and fellowships to research the ethnography of children’s play with a specific focus on children’s doll play. Her current research project includes an examination of black doll production and how children negotiate the presence or absence of a black doll in their play space.
Thank you Sabrina for educating us about dolls, their history, and how doll history has impacted the racial history of the United States.
