From professor to entrepreneur and doll creator, Dr. Lisa's passion and desire of not wanting children growing not loving their true beauty and brilliance is very much present in this heartfelt conversation with us.
Her journey of loving dolls and books, was very much evident, when she shared that she loved dolls, but grew out of playing them much earlier than her sister did and as she got older she would use them as students to teach them the lessons she learned from earlier that day. A professor in the making from way back.
She also tells us the turning point in her career from professor, to author to entrepreneur, "one day while watching an updated doll study, I saw a beautiful little dark-skinned girl say she didn’t think the brown doll was pretty because its skin was nasty. She then touched her own hand indicating her skin was nasty, too. As my heart broke and tears flowed down my face, I said to myself, I have to do something" and that something turned into the World of EPI.
A wonderful and heartfelt conversation with a women who persevered in spite of setbacks that pushed her to financial ruin, to the point that she lost her home and many other things along the way to create a wonderful line of dolls and a successful doll company with the mission of spreading joy by providing children with dolls that inspire dreams, promote intelligence and build self-esteem. Dr. Lisa states " Building self-esteem is the cornerstone of all the work I do, because low self-esteem can limit a child’s potential and have a negative impact on communities and society at large".
